An Upside-down Martini For These Upside-down Times

IMG-5435.JPGIMG-5435.JPG

Created by Julia Child, the upside-down martini is considered to be one of the best pre-dinner cocktails. The recipe calls for more vermouth and less gin then the typical martini, yielding a slightly sweeter, easy to drink aperitif.

Since spring is upon us, I'm going to share my favorite version of an upside-down martini with a fun twist. It consists of Lillet Rosé Vermouth and Suntory’s Roku Japanese Gin.  The Roku Gin offers aromas of cherry blossom and juniper, the Rosé Vermouth is bright, fruity, and brings balanced acidity. Since this is more of a wine-based cocktail, I prefer it served over crushed ice to keep perfectly chilled. Garnish with a lemon twist and enjoy!.

The Upside-down Martini (Spring Twist)

2 oz - Lillet Rosé Vermouth

¾ oz - Roku Gin

1 ea - Lemon (For Twist)

Ice

  • Add both the gin and vermouth into a glass filled with ice

  • Still until combined

  • Strain over crushed ice

  • Garnish with lemon twist

If a Martini is not quite your thing, you can browse our selection of spirits here and start putting together your own Spring-forward cocktail, but we’ll warn you, start with this one and it will be hard to put down.
