Winery of the Month:

Antonella Corda

We’re absolutely, off the walls excited to be able to show off the incredible wines of Antonella Corda this month. When we first encountered her wines last November we were stunned. We had never seen wines from Sardinia with such vibrancy, preserved freshness, finesse, complexity, and integrity. Setting aside everything, we’re pretty convinced that these wines are as good as they come. On top of this, Antonella is young, the estate is young (established in 2010), and the wines are already so, so, so good, which means that there’s room for them to get even better! This month we’re proud to offer Antonella Corda as our Winery of the Month.

Antonella Corda, fresh out of University with a degree in Agricultural Sciences and Technology and having inherited 40 hectares of land from her grandfather, established her estate in 2010 in the Serdiana region of southern Sardinia. Being the amazing, sustainability-focused person that she is, only 15 hectares are planted to vines. 12 hectares are planted to olive trees and the remaining 13 hectares are left as preserved habitat and space for rotation crop to keep the soil healthy and invigorated. This permacultural approach to farming has us convinced that it not only makes for a better environment but it also makes for better wine.

It’s a truism in the wine world these days that proper farming makes all the difference, but it’s still worth repeating, especially when you come across wines like these. We’ve probably all had at least some exposure to wines from Sardinia in the past. I’ve noticed that many of them come across as over-ripe and loose on the palate, in the case of whites, and over extracted, too raisin-y and conspicuously inky for Grenache, in the case of the reds. Antonella’s wines avoid all of these pitfalls and I’m going to chock it up to superior farming. Her wines are tense and energized, racy, refreshing, electrified, concentrated, complex, ageworthy, and hella fine, and you’ve got the opportunity all month to get them for 10% off.
