The world of wine is more dynamic and exciting than ever and one of the driving reasons for this has been the explosion of world class wines from outside of Europe. Focus still remains on the classic European wine regions, and why not? They’re classic for a reason, but while their prices keep shooting through the roof it’s worth taking a look at some of these undervalued regions where great vignerons are making magic happen. For us here at Bacco’s, South Africa represent the best of this new wave of quality producers around the world. With a blistering array of soil types, climates, varietals, and beautiful old vineyards to choose from, the prospects are enough to make an oenophile drool. On top of all of that the people behind this movement have the passion and the right kind of respect from the earth making them admirable additions to the world’s best.

This month we’ll be offering wines from two of our favorite new South African producers, David & Nadia and Botanica. Friends of our store might remember the wine of Botanica from earlier this year when we were blessed with the presence of their owner/winemaker Ginny Povall, who happens to be a MA native. Her wines are produced in Stellenbosch on a flower farm in Devon Valley and they express all the finesse, elegance, and energy that she radiates herself. David & Nadia is the winery project of David and Nadia Sadie (no relation to the venerated Swartland winemaker Eben Sadie) and perhaps one of the best wineries out of South Africa. They make wines that famous wine writer Jancis Robinson described as having “fifth-growth prices for first-growth quality”. We’ll be offering two distinctive wines from each of these producers at 10% off all month since we love them and we love getting these bottles in people’s hands.
